California Agent for Service of Process

What is an agent for service of process?

Corporations, LLCs and limited partnerships are required by statute to designate an agent for service of process.  An agent for service of process (also called a “resident agent”) is authorized to accept legal documents on behalf of the company.

The California Corporations Code requires that the Articles of Incorporation include the name and address of the corporation’s initial agent for service of process. A similar requirement applies to LLCs.
